NBA Playoffs: Suns at Spurs Game 3 Thread

The most hotly contested series got more hot with Amare calling out Bowen. Fine with me. Bad blood = better series. The trash talk has spread to the blogosphere.

Pounding the Rock: I've watched the videos and I've seen the screen captures on SpursTalk from the "other angle."  If forced to choose "yes" or "no" in response to the question "Is Bruce Bowen, in the context of today's NBA filled with whiny nancy-boys, a 'dirty player'?"...

I would have to go with "yes."

Bright Side of the Sun: We know San Antonio is going to come out with some new changes this game but I can't imagine what it will be at this point.  Maybe start Ginobili? (I don't think it will matter) Will they try to go smaller? (I sure hope so!)  Go bigger? (The Suns will just be able to run more)

I imagine Kurt Thomas will still start for the Suns and that Shawn Marion will still be on Tony Parker.  And I still believe that no matter what the Spurs do, as long as they keep Parker to under 20 points the Suns will win.

This will probably be the first NBA playoff game this year that I pay attenion to for the whole game, although it still gets switched between that and the hockey.

Jason Kidd had yet another triple-double to help Nets win. Can we take the MVP award from Nowitzki.

Hey Tony, just remember, the quicker you lose, the sooner you get to sleep with Eva again.

Does anyone else dislike this floating camera? It's as if they attached a camera to a drunken Superman.

I don't like it either kinda hard to follow the game.

I don't mind a different perspective sometimes (like how the NFL uses the overhead cameras on kickoffs), but in this case it's not all that different from the regular view, plus it's not steady. If I want an unsteady view of the game, I'll drink.

Amare might be a little distracted

Nah, he always gets into foul trouble like this. He just needs to let guys go sometimes.

Hey cool, another international tournament for the U.S. team to underperform in!

What the hell??? That was the latest foul call ever.

Whoa... did you know that Tony Parker is from France? That's some great commentary there.

0 points from Nash, and they're only down 2 at the half. I don't like that they gave up the lead, but I'm not worried.

Yea there doing pretty good shooting the ball and you know Nash will score. They have to take care of the ball better. High scoring fast pace game will favor the Suns at the end.

I agree. They had some dumb turnovers in that 1st half. The Spurs did a good job of swarming Nash, but there were other plays where they just threw the ball away.

Nash throws the ball away, then a foul on Amare. Not a particularly good start to the half.

Though now Duncan picks up his 3rd as well.

And Bowen with a knee to Nash's groin...

Wow, these referees sure love their whistles in this half. They're not letting anybody on either team do anything.

Bad calls by the refs here

The shots are just not falling for the Suns. They are lucky to only be down by 5, they have not looked very good tonight.

What was wrong with that???

Is there a cover on that basket? That's the 4th shot that's gone in and out this half.

Finally, Nash hits one. Damn, this is frustrating to watch.

Ow, Ginobli's definitely not faking on that one. That was an accident, but that should have been a foul on Marion.

I am off - hopefully the Suns can pull off this comeback. If not, they'll get them in Game 4 :)

Game Over. Terrible calls make suns lose.

I'm glad that game is over. It looked for a while like the teams were ready to just fight. I wish the refs would have let them play a little more tonight. They blew the whistle every 3 seconds.  And that no call when Marion poked Ginobili in the eye was the right call. The refs didn't even know that Ginobili got touched until he was on the sideline holding his eye. I don't think it deserved a foul call. One of the few times that the refs got the call right.

Yeah, the calls were excessive. I know they need to take control if they see things are getting out of hand, but there are times when you just have to let the guys play. The Suns rely on keeping the game going, so every foul called hurts them. There were certainly some bad calls (on both sides). I'm not entirely sure why on some plays they will call a minor foul, while on other plays, someone can get hacked and nothing is called. They could at least be consistent.

On the Marion/Ginobili play, it was a foul, but something like that happens so quickly that you'd have to be at the perfect angle to see it. It seemed to motivate Ginobili though, which sucks.

I would have loved to have heard what Raja said to Bowen. They showed that clip of him yelling at him. I'm guessing he wasn't too thrilled with Bowen's knee-to-the-groin on Nash, among other things. As far as that play goes, once again, it's one of those plays that you can interpret any way. I'm not entirely sure what he was doing with his knee (if he was going to take a step, he should get a job in the Ministry of Silly Walks), but it looked like enough of an accident that I can't definitively say that it was intentional.

The Suns just could not get shots to fall in the 3rd. I counted at least 5 shots that went in and out. That's just rough.

All in all, I figured that if the Suns took one, it would probably be Game 4. They looked like crap for most of the night, Amare was in foul trouble, they turned the ball over 16 times, yet they still only lost by 7. Next time out, they should be better than that.

Refs did seem pretty inconsistent on what calls they made. They did keep the game fair though IMO. It didn't seem that they were calling more fouls on one team than the other. That's all I really ask for. I wish they would let them play but if they are going to call silly fouls then atleast call them both ways. It was just a really chippy game.

The Marion thing was a foul but it wasn't something that should have been called because it would have been a hard one to see, just like Jon said. I've never seen anyones eye go black and blue almost instantly like Manu's did though. It was weird.

I would have loved to hear the comments made during the whole game. The ones made between Bell and Bowen specifically but also the one between Parker and Bell later in the game. I'm going to get accused of being biased here but I didn't think the knee to the groin looked intentional. It looked like Bowen was just trying to create some space because Nash was right on him. Plus Bowen already knew that the refs would be watching him more than usual so why would he do something intentional to draw more attention to himself.

Basically the game lived up to what was expected, it was a great played game. I just wish there wasn't controversy out there. The Spurs and Suns are probably the 2 classiest teams in the NBA and I don't want to see any dirty plays. Game 4 should be another good one.

As always, GO SPURS GO!!!

Oh and was I the only one that thought it was hilarious when Bowen made the 3-pointer right in front of the Suns bench with all the Suns yelling in his ear? Then he looked back at Stoudemire kind of like an in your face type thing and they showed Stoudemire who looked pissed. That was so funny!! Especially with Stoudemire in foul trouble
