Sweet College years... How can't you just love them when they're flavored with all kind of guilty pleasures, so...acceptable when you're under age! Nowadays, kids forgot about playing Twist, getting chicks for free or listening to funky techno hip music and got down to some serious business one grown up may find quite promiscuous.
In fact, they forgot about taking a part time job somewhere at a country side library in order to pay for their tuition, which at some universities can easily range into the mid to upper five figure ranges.
Today, the wiser college students are turning to online poker in order to help pay the bills. They are so many, that some experts see this as a growing trend.
It's true, loans are also common when it comes to acquiring college money, and much more wasy to deal with, but nothing compares to the high level of adrenaline a good old Texas Hold'em can pump into your young veins. Not to mention the intelligence that goes along!
According to launchpoker, experts like Tim Mahoney, D-Palm Beach Gardens, state that loans won’t be so easy to get in coming years. Therefore, the only valiable alternatives would be online poker and working extra jobs in, whatever field it may be neccesary.
However, I wonder why is an online poker site giving money away to college kids? Well, as long as they do not have to do anything sleezy about it, I guess it's alright to consider the college teens as the fastest growing segment of the online poker participants.
Nevertheless, the big online 'poker kahuna' is not giving away its bucks to just about any kid dares to play, but to the ones that are actually pros when it comes to stand with their college mates or university, show proof of enrollment, as well as being able to produce proof or fees for tuition and science books. Basic line is: the nerdest the kid, the better the poker reward!
I remember there was this kid at the Carnegie Mellon, who was also a senior clarinet performance and music education double major, with a 4.0 GPA score. He was also involved in other geeky projects like CM Kiltie Band, All- University Orchestra, Astronomy Club and the Pipe and Drum Band. Not to mention the wiz kid was also teaching in Carnegie Mellon Music Preparatory School. But, even if his poker scores were impressive, he didn't see himself living off poker. And the only reason why he couldn't advise other teens to follow the same path, was his freight of competition.
Overall, gambling may not be the best way to finance college tuition, but it isn't a bad idea either, as the last couple of years have marked a real explosion in college poker tournaments, offering juicy scholarships and prizes. The only problem experts could think about is the potentially addictive situations one could confront with. Furthermore, let's not forget that the online poker industry has probably the best marketing in the whole world, moving the negative image of poker to another field, where we can talk about a 'value' of gambling.
So, kiddo, the bottom line is that as long as you're keeping your education priority straight and keep up the schoolwork, poker should be the best financial reward! If you want to study poker, just go to Harvard, I hear they have a great curiculum, which includes...poker!
