The Nike Global Challenge 2011 Preview

For the 5th successive year, the Nike Global Challenge is ready to kick off this Friday. Reports have confirmed that the event will take place at Liberty High School in Hillsboro on the 5th of August.

The 3 day event will showcase top talents from across the globe as they compete in an eight team – 12 match tournament. This tournament also happens to be the last series of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball events.

The event also includes players from positional skills academies, which have been hosted by NBA stars like Deron Williams, Amar’e Stoudamire, Kevin Durant and LeBron James. The top 30 players from the camps were selected to play in this year’s Nike Global Challenge (2011).


The tournament has been formatted in such a manner that the American teams will be divided regionally into 3 teams. They will then play against the top U19 International players from Brazil, Canada, Chinese-Taipei, Germany and Puerto Rico.

Alumni from past Global Challenges have included this year’s number one draft pick; Kyrie Irving, Washington Wizards star John Wall and Cleveland Cavaliers Tristan Thompson too.


This year’s squad lists are:

United States, West – Dominic Artis, LJ Rose, Rasheed Sulaimon, Matt Jones, Danuel House, Aaron Gordon, Brandon Ashley, Grant Jerrett, Julius Randle and Landen Lucas.

United States, East – Braxton Ogbueze, James Robinson, Cameron Biedscheid, Omar Calhoun, Ricardo Ledo, Jerami Grant, Brice Johnson, Nerlens Noel and Chris Obekpa.

United States, Midwest – Terry Rozier, Marcus Paige, Archie Goodwin, JP Tokoto, Garry Harris, Jabari Parker, Alex Poythress, Jarnell Stokes, Daniel Ochefu and Tony Parker.

Brazil: Henrique Coelho, Luis Otavio Vieira, Gustavo Scaglia, Olintho Pereira, Luiz Henrique S dos Santos, Gemerson Barbosa, Cristiano Felicio, Lucas Mariano, Leonardo Meindl and Leonardo Demetrio.
