38 days until College Football kicks off. Over the next two weeks I'll be listing the 10 games I think will define the 2007 season. They also double as the 10 games I'd most like to attend. Go figure. Next Friday I'll have you rank the 10 best games of the year with your submissions included. So if you'd like me to include a game send me a note, I can be persuaded. There's still a few spots left in my list.November 3rd: LSU at Alabama
Normally if you'd ask me what game I'm looking forward to most, I'd quickly reply with the very first game on the schedule. Whether it's UNLV or USC. This year, my chorus is a little different. Who would want to miss Nick Saban's first matchup against the team he led to a National Title? A team that will likely be among the nation's best. And a fan base that likely despises their former icon.
Depending on how successful the Tide's season has been, Nick Saban may already be Governor of the state and if he can pull off this major victory, every newborn will be named Saban for the foreseeable future.
The RV's will be rolling into Bryant Denny Stadium by Wednesday and the tailgating will be at full crescendo by Thursday night. This setting tops my list of college football environments I need to experience before I die.
What's On the Line: LSU - For the Tigers it might very well be an SEC Championship and possibly a National Championship. Even so, if LSU fans had to pick only one game to win on the schedule my guess is Bama would top the list. Alabama - Nick Saban is a prick, but let's not mistake him for being anything other than a fantastic college football coach. He's a big game coach. Having personally met Nick during his time in East Lansing, I have little doubt he already has a rough draft game plan for all other 11 games, and a substantial plan for November 3rd. For the Tide this game probably will mean a top tier bowl game and the Independence/Liberty. Not to mention as always, the pride of each fan base which may be even more important.
Way too early prediction: I give $aban a hard time, but that has nothing to do with his talent. Alabama will play it's best game of the year on November 3rd. Problem is, the LSU Tigers will be just as motivated and twice as talented. Trindon Holliday makes a difference in field position for a late winning field goal. LSU 20, Bama 17
