In what I assume is a publicity stunt, a Japanese independent league team that goes by the curious name of Kobe 9 Cruise, has drafted themselves a knuckleball throwing 16-year-old. Who is also a girl.Anyhow, Eri Yoshida will be the first ever female in Asia to play in a men's professional league, so she's sort of like Jackie Robinson, except minus the racism and instead replaced with strange schoolgirl fantasies. So really, they have nothing in common.
But anyway, in all honesty, if there's one area of professional baseball where a woman could certainly succeed, pitching is definitely it. Even more so if she's a knuckleballer. The beauty of a knuckleball is that it doesn't have to be thrown hard at all, and has always been an extremely effective pitch when thrown properly. The one issue for Yoshida is if she falls behind in the count 3-0 and has to start throwing fastballs. That could definitely be a problem.
But despite the odds, she is definitely psyched.
"I never dreamed of getting drafted," Yoshida told reporters Monday, a day after she was selected to play for the Kobe 9 Cruise.
"I have only just been picked by the team and have not achieved anything," she said. "I want to play as a pro eventually in a higher league."
Man, she just got drafted and is already throwing her current team under the bus. Talk about a team cancer. Maybe she'll get traded to the Teriyaki Boat Hustlers or the Dragon Eared Pork Bellies for her insolence.
I just hope she goes on to great things, so we can eventually see her in awesome commercials, like my favorite one of all time - Mr. Sparkle.
I'm disrespectful to dirt! Can you see I am serious! Get out of my way, all of you! This is no place for loafers. Join me or die. Can you do any less? For lucky best wash, use Mr. Sparkle.
Awesome.
