#2 Texas Tech Red Raiders Vs #5 Oklahoma Sooners Live Thread
The Big 12 South Is On The Line Today; Can Oklahoma Be The One To Finally Take Down The Red Raiders?

In #2 Texas Tech's final game in a series of 4 consecutive ranked conference opponents, the last 3 of which were in the top 10, they will play the 5th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.

Graham Harrell is looking like the Heisman Trophy favorite at this point, but Sam Bradford is still hanging around, and this game could be a key game for both players.

64% of FanIQ picked the Sooners. I'm inclined to agree, but I've thought Tech would lose their last two games as well, and I was wrong, so who knows?

Chat it up here or on the game page. The game starts at 8pm EST, and you can watch it on ABC. Do it. It's worth it.

Enjoy the game.

Should've kicked the FG there.

Also, If I hear the Oklahoma fight song one more time I'm gonna, well I'll probably just keep watching, but they should slow down on it.

I thought the Sooners would win this game, but not like this.

That would have been a swift kick to the jugglers if Oklahoma would have recovered that kick.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would dominate this game the way we have. Let's keep that up the 2nd half and just blow them the f out all the way back to West f'n Texas!!!

That sound?

That's the sound of us laying the beat down!

Revenge has been a sweat savory flavor this year.  Especially for my teams, Florida (LSU and the gambler and Georgia, with the dancing in the endzone jazz last year) and Oklahoma.

110% spectacular!

Another pretender bites the dust!

Now don't go and freakin lay down against Okie St and screw this up.

I don't think I'd call Texas Tech a pretender.  Heck, assuming if you guys beat Okla St, I'd say they're just as qualified to represent the Big 12 South as Oklahoma or Texas.  I'd pay to see a tourny between Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, and a 4th team of your choice.  The Big 12 South is insansely good this season.

Wouldn't shock me at all to see us come up lame next weekend.  But to declare that Texas Tech is on equal footing with either Texas or Oklahoma is pretty dicey now.
TTech beat Texas by a point at home... but in all honesty, it was a 1st half full of mistakes that caused that loss.
Texas Tech played no one from north, barely escaped Nebraska at home, and has no OOC wins.  They have 2 big wins... and I think everyone at this point wonder if Oklahoma State is all that good.
Oklahoma slips ahead of Texas because they're playing better later in the season and because of the manhandling of Texas Tech... but Texas Tech has officially left the discussion.

If Oklahoma does lose to State next weekend... Texas is now your BCS rep from the Big 12, despite the lack of a Big 12 championship appearance.
Works out 100% fair.  :)

I understand your points about Tech and even agree to them to an extent, but that said, Tech, Texas and Oklahoma are all 1-1 against each other.   While Tech is being dominated tonight, its obviously a bad night for them.  It happens.  It just happens to be against another great team tonight so it looks even worse.

Well that hit wasn't flaggable. They have called a ton of penalties all night and it is getting old.

I think the thing that will hurt Tech the most (other than getting absolutely lit up) is that it happened on the road.  Their two signature wins to date (Texas and Okie State) were both at home.  They finally hit the road for a big game and they get ridiculously embarrassed.  When Oklahoma and Texas lost, they were both away from home and close games.

I understand that with one loss apiece, anyone can make an argument for either team.  But, IMO, this game knocks Tech out of any Big 12 title talk and a BCS game.   But this is assuming that the Sooners take care of Okie State next week.  If they don't, it's a whole different scenario.

So who's everyone's top 5?

By resume I got
Bama
Texas
Oklahoma
Texas Tech
Florida
USC

I think that Texas is the best team in the nation, but until Alabama loses I can't put them at #1.

That looks like a top 6 to me...

But I have:

Alabama
Oklahoma
Florida
Texas
USC

The way I see it, I might have Florida a little high, but the SEC championship game will straighten all of that out anyway.

Tech getting completely blown out drops them far in my book. And the fact that Oklahoma was the one to do it boost them above Texas. I know Texas beat OU, but that was a kinda close game... and the way they each played against Tech makes more of an impact in my mind.

USC stops getting punished for their loss to Oregon State, who really is a much better loss than Florida's to Ole Miss.. but whatever. Like I said... Florida will get straightened out either way at the SEC Championship game.

I can't really disagree.  I think from 2-5 (or 6, in my case) you can make a case for just about any order.  This season is pretty damn crazy.  A playoff would be so much fun.

Ditto.  Pat I think you are right on here.

JP Wilson hasn't been winning games for Bama.  They don't have all of their stock into one player.  They run run run run run then do their damage with defense.

But it's all a moot point right now.  Still a lot of football left to play.  And until Bama beats Florida in the SEC championship game, they will be considered the most overrated team in America.  Which isn't exactly a bad thing.

While I understand your point Tom, I don't know how anyone can call Alabama the most overrated team right now.  They are the only undefeated major conference team right now, and while I don't think they are the best team in the nation, that should mean something.  Anyone who doesn't have 'Bama as #1 on their ballot tomorrow needs to have their vote removed.

IMdrunk so this might not mak sens but for those who can't rank Texas over OU because o f head to head, how can you rank Tech ahead of Texas>

- The officiating was poor last night.  It bugged me the whole game.  I would've been just as upset if they made bad calls against Texas Tech, but it was Oklahoma that got slammed last night by the refs.  Thankfully they did what a real team does... made it a moot point :)

-  If Oklahoma loses to OSU next week, then Tech wins the south (if they beat Baylor).  Texas needs Baylor to win.  Oklahoma State already has 2 Big 12 south losses (Texas and Texas Tech), and is out of it unless all three teams above them lose next week.  If that happens, we'll be in for some serious craziness.

- Jubanator, in his inebriated state, hit squarely on the key thing I hadn't realized until I heard Stoops... if you rank Texas above OU soley because of the H2H... then you have to put Texas Tech ahead of Texas... :)

- My top 5 basically is a copy of kant's.  Florida vs Oklahoma is a tossup.  And I agree its time to finally stop giving USC such a hit because of Oregon State.  The reason they still don't get much favor from me, and don't belong, is because they haven't looked all that impressive all year.  ND is a sneaky trap game next week, and UCLA could still beat them too.  I'd enjoy that, as it'd erase any controversy.

- And, finally, WHY IN THE WORLD DOES EVERYONE WANT A PLAYOFF!?!?!
Which do you want... the winners of the weaker conferences playing (Oregon State, Cincinnatti, someone from the ACC)... or are you saying that the Big 12 and SEC are the best, but we're going to settle everything with a winner-take-all playoff when the regular season couldn't even settle things fairly???  The winner of the SEC and the winner of the Big 12 are the best teams in the nation, barring some seriously whack happenings next week.  Maybe Texas has some qualms.  No one else does.  Not clean!?!  Seems to me this is the cleanest season since the USC-Texas battle.
Oh, and in most playoff scenarios, the Texas Tech-Oklahoma game last night would have meant quite little.
