It's to turn down the mystique and aura (not to mention Jim Nantz) of the Masters as my favorite Major, but I prefer the US Open for these two reason.First, we actually get to watch most of the even. Who we want and whenever. 10 am - 7 pm coverage Thursday and Friday. At Augusta we're lucky to see 6-7 holes prior of the early rounds.
Secondly, and more important, I enjoy watching the professionals truly elated with a birdie. Isn't that how golf is intended to be played? Us armchair hacks can relate better to scores in the +5 range, than a leaderboard full of red numbers in double digits.
Alright, here's 5 guys I expect to be in contention on Sunday (not named Tiger):
Zach Johnson Assuming God is on his side again, Zach has a game that's probably a better fit for the US Open format than Augusta. Conservative and down the middle.
Retief Goosen Two-time Open champion should always be considered here.
Adam Scott It's just a matter of time before he wins a major. Why not here? A final round pairing of Tiger and Scott would bust open ratings just as much as Tiger and Phil.
Sean O'Hair You have to root for this guy, at least I do. It seems fitting and a perfect drama that on Father's Day, O'Hair who has a well documented troubling history with his dad, take home his 1st major.
Vijay Singh Pains me to say this, least favorite on tour, but Vijah is due.
My Pick: O'Hair
