Day 3 of the Olympics provides some great action. More Michael Phelps, women's gymnastics, and the first game for the Redeem Team.
I'm definitely looking forward to watching LeBron, Kobe and crew take on China in the morning. China's no pushover, obviously, with Yao Ming on the squad. But the other key is that China has a very tall team, whereas Team USA decided to go for a much smaller, quicker roster at these Olympic Games. We'll see how much that helps or hurts the Team USA.
Here's the NBC schedule for Sunday (all times are for your time zone thanks to the miracle of tape delay).
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. - The U.S. men's basketball team missed out on an Olympic gold medal in 2004. Now the newest "Dream Team" tries to become the "Redeem Team," and its journey begins with a preliminary-round contest against host nation China - and national hero Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets (LIVE ET/CT).
12 p.m. to 1 p.m. - Men's and women's preliminary rowing heats continue from Shunyi Park, and the grueling 78-mile women's cycling road race sweeps through historic Beijing. Plus, Team USA plays China in men's water polo opening-round action.
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - More from women's cycling, where riders are racing nearly 80 miles of road in pursuit of gold. Also, the U.S. beach volleyball team of Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal take on Dutch duo Emiel Boersma and Bram Ronnes in an early-round match.
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. - The culmination of the women's cycling road race, in which the top female riders tour - and endure - nearly 80 miles of Beijing streets in pursuit of Olympic medals. Also, more swimming as competitors try to advance from qualifying heats in several men's and women's distances.
7 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Michael Phelps swims the men's 200m free semifinal, where he is the overwhelming favorite, and the men's 4x100m free relay final, his second gold-medal race in as many days. The Americans have other medal contenders in the women's 400m free (Baltimore’s Katie Hoff) and men's 100m breast (world-record holder Brendan Hansen). Also, five-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin swims in the semifinal of her best event, the 100m back (LIVE ET/CT). Plus, a first look at the U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics team, led by teens Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin, and the first diving gold medals of the Games (women's springboard synchro).
