It's our first golf major without Tiger Woods at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England. Woods' absence and subsequent ratings will be the overwhelming story on Day 1, but let's hope round 2 turns our attention towards some talented golfer taking advantage of the opportunity.
Will you be watching? Is the Tiger factor too strong?
As an avid golf fan, the British Open is neck and neck with Augusta as my favorite. I love the early tee times, the all day coverage, and the unique courses the Open Championship presents. The good news for casual fans is that this year's Open is on one of the most beautiful and unique courses in the country. If nothing else, this weekend could provide you a television escape across the pond.
It's my hope that burgeoning star Anthony Kim take advantage of the first Tiger-less major. Still unfamiliar with the 23-year-old two time winner on tour this year? Check out the Los Angeles Times' solid 23-point detail of a talent who has plenty of moxie to take on the game's best right now. I'll be pulling for Kim, but he's hardly the favorite.
Here's your British Open Odds:
Sergio Garcia 8/1 (yes, the favorite. haha)
Ernie Els 14/1
Lee Westwood 14/1
Phil Mickelson 16/1
Padraig Harrington 33/1 (don't pick him)

Jim Furyk 22/1
Justin Rose 25/1
Geoff Ogilvy 25/1
Graeme McDowell 40/1
Miguel Angel Jiminez 28/1
Andres Romero 33/1
Anthony Kim 33/1
Rory Sabbatini 100/1
(More)
The Field 10/1
My pick is Paul Casey (50/1). Who you going with? Set the alarms early, we'll have the live threads up early all weekend.
