One final NFL Draft post for a little while. I've been meaning to get to this all week as Todd McShay's 2009 Mock Draft is worth a good laugh. First, we have to give a belated congratulations to RenegadeLG and isucubs for beating ALL EXPERTS in the NFL Draft Fans vs Experts Challenge. Mel Kiper has nothing on these two, but the basement dwelling draft guru did finish 3rd overall. (Yours truly finished 15th)
OK, onto McShay's way too early look at next year's NFL Draft. Nothing about this will be accurate, but it's a good discussion piece.
He's got a USC DT going first. Sounds logical.
The stud defensive end for Georgia Tech second. A DE is always a top need and Michael Johnson is definitely one of the best.
An interesting choice of Matt Stafford of Georgia going third. Great arm, should have significant improvement over the offseason and play for a national title contender.
Spots four, five and six are honestly guys I've never heard of. Then there's pick No. 7.
7. Chicago Bears -- Tim Tebow*, QB, Florida
You gotta be kidding, right?
For starters, Tim Tebow will not be drafted 7th overall in next year's draft, nor the year after. His Heisman trophy win will prevent that from happening alone. Secondly, the NFL is no place for the QB run on third and short. Tebow is big, but he's not NFL defensive line big. Then there's the whole debate over whether is arm is good enough.
The answer: No.
He's got strength and room to improve his accuracy and spiral, but you don't think he'll be a Top 10 pick do you? Or even first round?
Then again, the Bears may be dumb enough to be baited by another Florida QB. God help me if that happens.
