Time To See If Rachel Alexandra Is All That [Preakness Live Thread]

5/16/09 in Horse Racing   |   100%InjuryRate   |   1283 respect

All right, time to see if Rachel Alexandra, the super philly can win the 2009 Preakness Stakes.

She's a huge 2 to 1 favorite, after blowing away everyone at the Kentucky Oaks two weeks ago.

Just like our Kentucky Derby live thread, feel free to chat it up here for the 2 minutes of the race here. We'll have the video up as soon as possible after the race is over.

I do not like her odds at Belmont, personally. She struggled down the stretch. Had this been the Belmont, Mine That Bird would have won. However, I hope she still runs the Belmont. Love to see those horses race one more time.

Dude, don't talk while holding a trophy over your head.

Nice Conan commercial, btw.

Calvin... not bad for a dude with a 9th grade education. His wife is pretty hot. Money will do everything.

Don't worry. The Mets bullpen will take care of that.

5/16/09   |   BluDevil   |   618 respect

Just saw it again, man that was still a heck of a run by MTB. If he wouldn't have had to hold up just a bit while waiting for the pack to break....

Completely agree. I'm very impressed with MTB.

And Fresian Fire sucks again. That horse does not belong here.

Hey, we might have a jockey Triple Crown with Borel. That's something I guess.

Depends on if the owners decide to run Alexandra at Belmont. I don't see why they wouldn't, but ya never know. I guess if Alexandra doesn't run Belmont that he'd still be able to ride Birdy again though.

Alexandra does look kind of worn out, as you'd expect, but makes me wonder about her at the Belmont.

Given how they raced today, if it was the Derby, Rachel would still win - Belmont, I think Mine That Bird would have definitely caught her.

They should give those Jockeys a napkin or something in addition to all those goggles, so they can wipe the mud off their lips before they give an interview.

5/16/09   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

For once a horse race lives up to the hype. They usually lead in crushing disappointments.

I wonder what things would look like had Alexandra ran in the Derby. Would we have a triple crown? Would we have a modern day Affirmed/Allydar with how Mine that Bird almost ran Alexandra down?
