Teams are not allowed to actually ink any deals with free agents until Friday at 6:00pm. That's when the real fun begins!

What better way to track the latest deals than a live thread? Of course we will be bringing stories of major signings to you via the Best of the Web as usual, but here we can talk among ourselves about rumors and confirmed trades and signings. Work? Who are you kidding...you know you won't be able to focus on anything from now until the end of the free agency period. So join us here for the latest!

Good luck to all of your teams.

That price is way too steep. I love Trufant but yes, he's aging and hasn't been performing lately. I understand we just got Miller, and I LOVE John Carlson..I don't want to see him go. I'll cry. Those, PLUS a 2nd/3rd rounder? Entirely too much.

John Clayton just tweeted that the Packers resigned James Jones to a 3 year deal. That's surprising to me, as I figured someone would overpay him to be a starter, which I'm not sure he can really do, what with all the drops. Hopefully the Packers didn't end up being that team, and it's a reasonable contract.

Well and like one of my fellow 12th Man faithful just tweeted - it's rough and it hurts to see some of our old favorites go, but our old favorites were obviously not getting it done. I think Carroll and Schneider know what they're doing, and as hard as it is to see some of these beloved players leave, we have to learn to let go of the guys who we've become attached to out of comfort and familiarity if they're not producing.

Lofa Tatupu is now a free agent - after the Seahawks asked him to take a paycut, he asked them to release him. - It kind of surprises me how little this upsets me - but after thinking about it I guess not. Maybe a couple of years ago I would be upset, but actually Lofa's been injury prone the past few years...and even when he hasn't been injured, he hasn't really been performing up to the standard of which his contract was built when they re-signed him a few years ago. Sad to see him go, but maybe we can get production out of another MLB.

I guess now the question is, who are the eagles going to trade off? Samuels or Cromartie? Just cause they picked him up in the Kolb deal doesn't necessarily mean they wanted him for anything other than his market value. We may very well see him traded elsewhere for someone the eagles feel fits one of their needs more. They've got pretty good trade bait in either Samuels or Cromartie. Or are they going to play a boatload of nickel packages and have the #1 pass defense in football?

Figures ,  Dallas was hyped as being his likely landing spot but they had a lot of cap problems to take care of just to get even so seemed like a hard road for them to clear the cap space needed to get him signed. Also Jets have been attached to seemingly every FA on the market by far to many.

It really is down now to whether or not the Packers will re-sign James Jones.  It appears the Vikings have an offer out that would be larger than what the Packers are willing to spend.  I do agree with Aaron Rodgers when he stated the #1 priority for Green Bay is to get Jones signed and in camp.

It figures it's both the Ryan boys going after him. What gets me is how either team can pull it off cap wise. The Cowboys are already having cap issues so even releasing Newman is only part of the issue and for the Jets to justify $20-$25 million a year for just two corners is questionable also. Granted, two really good corners but at a cost of  about 15-20% of team salary?

Saints finally start to hit some kind of stride and get some of the guys back under contract. Good Luck to Reggie as he moves on to Miami , hate to see such a talent move on but it was a question of production for the buck and his price tag was simply way to much for what we were getting.

Also, Greg Olson was traded to the Panthers, making that Carolina's first move that didn't involve resigning one of their guys for a ridiculous amount of money.

Okay...but only if, as I Jags fan, I get to be excited too! But I do see where you're coming from, as a fan, when our team makes any sort of big changes, our first instinct says to be positive, so I'll give you that one. Whitehurst does have his flashes of brilliance, so if Carroll can get him going, I think that would be the Hawks best shot at the division this year, I just don't see Jackson doing much. Before Favre, he had an ultra talented team in Minnesota, and couldn't do too much, I don't see him coming in and managing any better than Hasselbeck did. But I have no fan bias in the NFC West, so I wish your Seahawks luck this year.

Their running game also needs to step it up if they want to make a run at the division. How I see it, the Seahawks, playing in possibly the weakest division in the NFL, may have just earned themselves a 6-10 record or so, essentially eliminating them from the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, and most likely Pete Carroll's ex-QB at USC, Matt Barkley as well. This off-season 'win' may end up setting the Seahawks back quite a bit.

But did you see how much the Falcons gave up for Julio? Do you want to make that kind of trade? It's not easy moving up to the very top of the draft, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Luck and Barkley both go in the top 3-5 picks. Though, I could see where you would be excited about Rice, he's a great, young player, but there are the injury concerns, and he has never flourished when Jackson was throwing him the ball. I do think he will be more productive than Housh was in a Seahawks uniform, because Housh was 31 when he signed with Seattle, and didn't really know how to be a #1 guy. Rice, on the other hand,  is still only 24 years old, if he can recovery properly from his surgery, he has a lot of football in front of him. But as you said, you  never know what's going happen.

Oh, it's not that I'd want my team to give up too much for a high draft pick to get someone that you really don't know what they're going to do...I was just noting that you don't necessarily have to finish low to finagle something. And, as we all found out last year, Carroll always has something nutty up his sleeve. Ruskell ruined that team by signing a lot of old players to ridiculously long contracts. Carroll came in and nipped that mess in the bud the minute he got to Seattle, so for that I'll be forever grateful. I didn't think I'd ever hear myself say it, but I actually have faith in the guy right now. I love what he's doing, focusing on the O-Line, size, and youth now.

I agree that they overpaid for him, much like TJ Whoyourmama, a couple of years ago. I am more than willing to give Rice a break, he is still a young guy and last year was cut short by an injury, after a breakout 2009. I don't believe that he is worth $40 million. But it is going to be difficult to put up numbers if your QB can't get you the ball. Like Colin Cowherd said "Seattle has the market on backup QB's covered, with Whitehurst and TJax. Paul Posluszny has agreed to a 6-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He will be a great addition to the Jags defense, teaming up with veteran leader, Daryl Smith. Kirk Morrison is now in an interesting situation, Morrison is also testing the waters of free agency. The Jags have expressed an interest in resigning Morrison, but are sending mixed signals with the Posluszny deal, because both players player Inside Linebacker. Morrison has always played Inside, and may lack the athletic ability to make the transition to Outside. Posluszny, on the other hand, has played some outside backer, while in Buffalo, however, one of the main reasons for signing with the Jags was so that he could play his natural 3-4 ILB spot. So this might be interesting to see unfold.

Who knows though...MAYBE Jackson will surprise us. I did read somewhere that he's familiar with our new OC's system, so that's encouraging.

Jerry had a plan going into today, he knew he was over the cap. He knew who was expendable, he needs to resign Doug Free, and he needs to get younger and better in the defensive backfield.

Another guy I wouldn't care if Dallas cut, is Keith Brooking. He is older and despite his leadership, Sean Lee stepped up and preformed very well when Brooking got hurt late last year. I like Lee, and reports are that he has a motor that won't stop.

NFL Network is reporting that Jerry has personally contacted players that they will be releasing or trying to restructure their contracts to free up cap space. Currently Dallas is about $14 million over the cap. The list of players they named were Davis, Colombo, Barber, Newman, Romo, Austin, and Ware. The final 3 on the list are believed to simply be people they want to restructure their contracts. The other 4 it is believed that they were given an option of restructuring or being released. Sounds to me like if Davis was even given the option, he refused. So Jerry told him to pack his bags.

Two Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks have signed to NFL teams. Daiveun Curry-Chapman(WR) has signed with the Arizona Cardinals. I actually worked with him at Coke, two years ago. He is the prototypical WR, tall, big body with speed and good hands. I personally hope that he can make the roster. Matt Estrada(S) has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Estrada also returned kicks and punts for the Lumberjacks. Good luck to both these young men in reaching their dream of being an NFL football player.
