What happens when your upset NFL picks go wrong? You get back on the horse, and you predict that a couple of contenders will lose in Week 4. That, for me, begins with the Thursday night game in St. Louis. Truth be told, all three prime time NFL games this week should be entertaining.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: San Francisco 49ers at St. Louis Rams
This game is, in theory, an opportunity for the San Fran offense to pick itself up after a couple of lackluster performances. St. Louis has been very inconsistent on defense in 2013, which is frustrating in that the Rams could be 2-1 heading into this contest. Sam Bradford has done quite well against the Niners in the past, and San Francisco is limping into this contest and will be missing several starters. I like the home side here.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: New York Giants at Kansas City Chiefs
You have to believe that Andy Reid is doing everything he can to ensure this is not a trap game for the Chiefs. New York has been absolutely awful on both sides of the ball. The Giants have had zero pass rush, their offensive line can't protect Eli Manning, and they barely have a run game. Yuck.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns
How about that Brian Hoyer?!? The man who was a third-string QB less than two weeks ago breathed new life into a Cleveland offense that looked DOA, and the Browns actually appeared to be having, dare I say, fun last weekend. I remain not sold on the Bengals. Cincy was gifted the win by the Packers last weekend, and the Bengals weren't all that inspiring in beating a very bad Pittsburgh team.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills
My gut is telling me to take another home team here. Baltimore was terrible in their season opener at Denver, and they weren't all that better when hosting a Browns offense that had Brandon Weeden starting at quarterback. Then I remember that the Bills couldn't beat the Jets despite the fact that Gang Green gave away over 160 yards in penalties.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
The Lions cannot stay healthy. A nagging knee problem is bugging Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush is a mainstay on the Detroit injury report, and Nate Burleson, who was leading the team in receptions, broke his arm when he tried to save some pizzas while operating a vehicle. Word to the wise: Let the pizzas hit the floor, kids. They're not worth it.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: Pittsburgh Steelers at Minnesota Vikings
A bad 0-3 team will be hosting an awful 0-3 team. The Vikings have Adrian Peterson, and they're getting FB Jerome Felton back. Pittsburgh's offense, on the other hand, has erased any positives that it has achieved by giving the football away at an alarming rate.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: Arizona Cardinals at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Greg Schiano ship sinks more and more with every week. Two days after he gave QB Josh Freeman a verbal vote of confidence, the Tampa Bay coach named Mike Glennon his starter. Freeman, while far from great when leading the team's offense, is hardly the biggest problem with the Buccaneers. I'm not sure that a new coach wouldn't help them.
2013 Week 4 NFL picks: Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville is the worst team in the NFL. Nothing has happened in the past week to change that. Unless Indy goes into this one sleepwalking after beating the 49ers in San Francisco last week, the Colts should cover the 10-point spread, and do so with ease.
