Ok so the canes lost. final was 6-3, but they were within 4-3 with about 10 to play. But the Islanders first 3 goals were shorthanded, and two of them came on the same power play. AAARRRRRGGHHHHH. It's funny, I've never followed a team that doesn't live up to it's potential like the Hurricanes. And i don't blame the coach. Laviolette is one of the best in the game (imo), usually knows the goalie situation well, has called time outs in the right places, and will switch up lines mid shift. Part of this blame is on the owner and gm, the rest is on the players.
Karmanos and Rutherford make little to no moves to improve the team. They brought in Samsonov, who is actually playing well. But all the problems are on D. Wesley and Hedican invented the damn sport. They have the injuries. I don't know why they haven't brought in a younger, better defenseman to help Gleason and Commodore. There are a bunch of injuries, but the older guys aren't healing fast enough.
And the effort from the players isn't there. They play maybe half a game. Staal has played well recently, but I've been at games where he was outhustled down ice by the goalie. I understand that we are a quick team, built for finesse, not braun. But the Hurricanes need to hit. Some of the guys called up from Albany have been doing that, but they aren't around long enough.
I'm with kteacher, in just hoping they can put together a string of games, get the points. They are off til after the all-star game, and then are having a long road trip soon. Here's hoping the second half is better, and they have a decent playoff seed.
