Colin Kaepernick under investigation in connection with alleged 'suspicious incident'
TMZ broke the news, and they appear to have exaggerated a few details. They report the incident as an alleged "sexual assualt", but the Miami PD has pushed back and insisted that this is "an incident report taken at the woman's request". It should be noted, though, that a close read of the police report does name each of the three players as a "suspect".
You'll find a more measured report on Colin Kaepernick being named in an investigation in the San Jose Mercury News. Of if you prefer, the Colin Kaepernick police report is also available online, with the purported victim's name redacted.
The report describes that an unnamed woman in Miami visited Lockette's offseason apartment on the night of April 1. She found Kaepernick and Patton present at the apartment. She made them all drinks, and accoring to the report "they told her that in order to drink the shots she had to 'hit' the bong which contained marijuana."
I bet you anything they did not use those exact words.
The tale turns darker, as the woman says she quickly became tired and laid down in bedroom in the apartment. Kaepeernick entered the room, and the two made out (they had previously been romantically involved). She removed all her clothes, but did not have sex. Kaepernick left the room. Moments later, Patton and Lockette allegedly peeked into the room and she told them to get out.
She claims that the next thing she can remember is waking up in a hospital the next morning, with no recollection of how she got there.
Now it could be this woman just has an exceptionally low tolerance to marijuana. It could be that this is another allegation with no evidence and ultimately no charges, like the Michael Crabtree allegation from last year. But this is the sixth time in the last year that a 49er has been arrested or named as a suspect in a police report, and Kaepernick is in the middle of contract negotiations. For both sides, this is still extremely unwelcome news.
