5/23 NBA Playoff Triple Threat
READ MORE:
NBA
Every day during the NBA playoffs, the Triple Threat will break down the latest action as they (slowly) move towards the Finals.

Spurs dominate Utah Once again, the second quarter did in Utah. The Spurs outscored the Jazz by 15 in the second period, giving them a 17 point lead at the half. It was a lead San Antonio would not relinquish in winning 105-96. The Jazz attempted to come back, getting within seven at one point, but the Spurs were just too strong. Utah is a good team at home, but it's hard envisioning them coming back from the 2-0 deficit they're in right now.

Northwest strikes gold Portland won #1 pick in the draft lottery, and Seattle won the #2 pick. Memphis and Boston were the biggest losers, dropping to the 4 and 5 picks respectively (some would call it karma for tanking). Phoenix also lost, as Atlanta took the 3 slot, allowing them to keep their pick. The rest of the teams must take solstice in the fact that this is a deep draft, and that they didn't have much of a chance or striking gold.

Portland now gets to add Oden or Durant to the following core: Roy, Aldridge, Randolph (if he's not traded), Rodriguez, Jack, Webster, and Outlaw (maybe). Wow. For the Sonics, it remains to be seen if Oden or Durant can keep them in Seattle. It does give them a much better shot than what it was before the lottery.

No game today. Game 2 of Cavs-Pistons is Thursday at 8:00 on TNT.

What are your thoughts on Tuesday's playoff action? Or, if you don't care about the actual basketball anymore, what are your thoughts on the lottery results? Are there any Celtics fans left anymore?

And why isn't there a game tonight? The NBA decided to move the game so as to not "compete" with the American Idol Final. That, my friends, is where we're at today. Sad.

Sad draft for me. No help for the Clippers (no surprise there). No help for Suns and no extra help (i.e., no top 3 pick) for Bulls.

In a realgm.com mock draft (done before last night's lottery) PHX got Conley, Tiago Splitter (a floor-running shot-blocker from europe) and Nick Young. The comment was made that the first two picks would give PHX a team that would be contending for titles for the next decade (I think).

Now, without getting the Hawks pick, I think PHX's hand is forced more to make a trade. It may not be popular right now but with apparent chemistry issues and their inability to get past SAN, this may be the best time to make a move. I was checking for trades that work with the salary rules and one interesting possibility, if NOK would go for it, is trading Marion (I know it sounds crazy, but PHX wants to cut costs and Marion has reportedly been unhappy) for Tyson Chandler and Rasual Butler.

Neither is the offensive player that Marion is, but Chandler could perhaps excel running the floor with PHX and Butler is a good 3-pt shooter (something important for a Suns player). Chandler would improve their low-post defense (like against Duncan) and he was among the league leaders in rebounding (a Suns' weakness) while Marion dropped some in that area.

If somehow Diaw, Jones, or maybe even Thomas could instead be traded in a way that would truly improve the team...great! Just don't trade Pat Burke.

Well, well, well.... How fitting is it that the Pacers now get to send their #11 pick to Atlanta (along with having the #3 pick), and at #11 will probably get the player the Pacers would covet the most at that position-- Mike Conley!!!

Not just that, but with trading for a "can't miss guy" named James White this years' 2nd round pick goes to Portland!!!!  James White couldn't even make the Pacers' final roster!

Perfect way to complete last summer's "Al Harrington trade"-- pure stupidity, no other way to put it.  I hope that this is the last stupid trade the Pacers have in mind!
