60 Minutes: John Martorano and Pervez Musharraf Were More Believable Than Roger Clemens
READ MORE:

Roger Clemens much anticipated 60 Minutes interview with Mike Wallace went about how I expected. A very defensive and agitated Clemens, was unconvincing in his defense of steroid allegations from former trainer Brian McNamee.

Many others were equally skeptical of The Rocket.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says "Either Roger Clemens is telling the truth, or he is convinced that he can not be caught in a lie."

Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle sums it up best.
"You indignantly wondered why you haven't been given the benefit of the doubt. OK, Roger, we'll go over it one more time.

Your trainer of 10 years, a man named Brian McNamee, a man with zero incentive to lie, says he injected you with steroids and human growth hormone at least 16 times over a period of several years.

Your training partner and closest friend in baseball, Andy Pettitte, has acknowledged that McNamee injected him with human growth hormone. Even those of us who want to believe you are having a hard time getting our minds around the notion that McNamee would tell the truth about Pettitte and lie about Roger Clemens.

You allowed McNamee's side of the story to go unchallenged for far too long. You looked guilty by doing that even if you weren't guilty."

Roger may very well be innocent, but his 60 Minutes interview only made him less believable. He's going to need three straight stikeouts to get out of this jam.

I have to disagree with you CF. I'd also like to preface my comment by saying that I have no attachment to Clemens because he played for the Yankees. I'd be saying the same thing if he had stayed with the Red Sox his entire career.

While I have my suspicions of just about every player in the steroid era, I cannot condemn a man until I see a thing called "evidence." Brian McNamee's word is not evidence enough, especially considering the circumstances with which is was obtained. I need something a little more concrete than that.

A lot of people have already made up their minds about Clemens, so I think it really doesn't matter what he says or does. He appeared upset in that interview, and if he's telling the truth, I don't blame him. I'm willing to wait and see how everything plays out before I make my judgment.

Clemens and Pettitte basically trained hand in hand throughout their careers. Pettitte admits to taking HGH from Brian McNamee. So Clemens just sat around and watched? I'm not saying THAT'S the reason I think he's guilty but it certainly helps.

It also took Roger 3 weeks to come up with the Lidacaine story. Just about every athlete has said you don't get that through a shot, although you can. Why didn't he immediately dismiss the issue on day 1 and admit to taking shots from McNamee?

I think it was you in a previous thread, that agreed Roger's attorney is setting this up as best he can by admitting to taking a shot because they can prove that but they can't prove what was actually in the device. His actions yesterday seemed more like a man who definitely worked very hard, was very very good at his craft but is very upset he was caught "cheating" just a little bit.

Yes, I did say that it looks like Clemens' lawyers are setting it up to be a "I didn't know what I was taking" defense. I am suspicious for sure. But after seeing the entire interview, I came away with a different tenor from Clemens than when we just saw the preview of the 60 Minutes episode. Also, the wording of the lawsuit against McNamee leaves me with as much doubt to McNamee's credibility as Clemens. I am unsure what to believe, because there seems to be a lot of he said, he said... and not enough "hard evidence" for me to presume he is guilty. I'm still just suspicious.

Perhaps Clemens didn't discuss the nature of what McNamee put in his body initially because his attorneys advised him not to (if it was in fact lidocaine and B-12). I don't know. It sounds like he was taking a lot of pain killers and anti-inflammatories.

There's time and still a lot that we probably don't know that I think will come out eventually. Who knows, maybe today's press conference will reveal something? One interesting theory I read earlier today was on WasWatching.com about Clemens possibly warning MLB with that Vioxx comment he made during the 60 Minutes interview.
