Deron Williams surprised his fans by opting to move to Brooklyn with the New Jersey Nets. According to popular belief the All-Star point guard was going back home to the Dallas Mavericks this summer.

In a post on his Twitter page on Tuesday night, Deron Williams said he had “made a very tough decision today”. The Tweet was accompanied by a picture of the New Jersey Nets’ team logo, which meant obviously meant that Deron Williams was going to play for the New Jersey Nets next season.

Reliable sources have confirmed that Deron Williams has inked a five-year contract worth $98 million with the New Jersey Nets. More information on the topic will be brought into light on July 11 when the contract is official signed.

Deron Williams, who was the top free agent in the market this summer, was expected to return to the Dallas Mavericks but apparently New Jersey Nets extended his stay with a better contract offer.

The signing is huge relief for the New Jersey Nets as they plan to move into the new Barclays Center for the 2012-13 season. The New Jersey Nets had to make a he sacrifice in order to accumulate the funds for Deron Williams.

The New Jersey Nets had to give up on their two promising first-round picks forward Derrick Favors and point guard Devin Harris. The players were sent as a players plus cash deal to the Utah Jazz.

So was it worth it?

Well, some may argue that this deal was a necessity. The New Jersey Nets needed a franchise player on their roster in order to build hype and buzz as they move to New York this season. Deron Williams was the most suitable player New Jersey Nets could get for this project.

According to reports, Deron Williams wanted the New Jersey Nets to make their minds about the deal as quickly as possible as he wanted to report to Las Vegas for Team USA’s training camp. Team USA will begin their training camp for the 2012 London Olympics on July 5.

The training camp will announce their 12-man roster after the team’s practice on July 7. Deron Williams will most probably make it into the team. Nonetheless, Deron Williams wants to focus all of his concentration on Team USA.

On Monday, Deron Williams met with the New Jersey Nets and the Dallas Mavericks after the free agency opened. He was expected to make a decision earlier but some delays in the finalizing process of the contract brought delays.
