A GIANT Mid-Season Collapse?

Blog Photo - A GIANT Mid-Season Collapse? The defending World Series Champs.  Winners of two World Series' in the last three years. The Giants have depended almost solely on their starting rotation and bullpen depth to neutralize their opponents as their hitting was bleak.

Nowadays, the Giants can't help but give up runs, runs and more runs. Lets have a look at the starting rotation ERA through a 1/4 of the MLB season:

1. Matt Cain (3-2, 5.43 ERA)
2. Madison Bumgarner (4-2, 3.09 ERA)
3. Tim Lincecum (3-3, 4.70 ERA)
4. Barry Zito (3-3, 3.91 ERA)
5. Ryan Vogelsong (1-4, 8.06 ERA)

The bright spot? Bumgarner. specifically because he signed a very reasonable extension at 5 years, $37 million as compared to Matt Cain's $126 million deal or Tim Lincecum's 2013 $22 million salary. Or maybe Zito's $19 million salary this season?

Either way, the only reason the Giants are afloat at 24-20 is because of their hitting. They have a team batting average of .270, which is good enough for 4th in the MLB. Marco Scutaro, Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence have been driving forces along with Buster Posey in order to give this lineup some potency.

Maybe the Giants need some uplifting character in their clubhouse, someone the team is used to having around - the bearded fella. Fear the Beard is something Giants fans have not heard in too long. Some Brian Wilson would go a long way in igniting this team's pitching staff.
