A Non-Rooney Steelers?!
7/8/08

Over the past few years, the Rooney clan has been making the tough ownership transition between Chairman Dan Rooney and the other Rooney brothers. The four Rooney brothers; Art Jr., Timothy, Patrick, and John are hoping to focus their business interest away from the NFL. The Rooney family owns racetracks in New York and Florida. These sometimes got in the way of the NFL gambling policy. Rodger Goodell has promoted Paul Tagliabue to serve on a committee to help represent the league in discussions with the Rooney family to separate their racing business with their football business and to reconstruct the ownership if the team is sold. Dan Rooney stated that, “I have spent my entire life devoted to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the National Football League. I will do everything possible to work out a solution to ensure my father’s legacy of keeping the Steelers in the Rooney family and in Pittsburgh for at least another 75 years.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers is one of the most storied franchises in all of sports and part of that is due to the efforts of the Rooney family. When I heard of the possibility of the Rooney's letting go of the Steelers I about soiled myself. The Steelers are one of the few franchises left that are still family owned and operated and I hope it stays that way. I think Dan and Art II will do everything in their power to keep the Rooneys in Pittsburgh where they belong for another 75 years...

(This probably will not tag as "Pittsburgh Steelers")

Will be the best thing to happen to the Steelers.  Someone who owns them may actually spend some money on Free Agents....Bad News for Browns fans!

I don't believe this will in ANY way, shape, or form affect the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise. The winning tradition in Pittsburgh will continue, with most likely, the remaining Rooney family who isn't addicted to gambling buying the final 20% of shares.

All said though, who wants to pitch in on some Steelers stocks?
