A day of blunders - which was worse?
READ MORE:
MLB
Unfortunately, yesterday's otherwise entertaining playoff games were decided by two major blunders. Normally we'd have forgotten and moved on, but this is the playoffs and we're likely to be talking about them for weeks.

In the early game (Oak vs Min) with the score tied a 2, Mark Kotsay hit a line drive to center field forcing Torii Hunter to either hold up and allow the single or attempt to make the spectacular play. He chose the latter, missed badly, Twins lose. Following the game Hunter defended himself by saying that every other CF would understand.

Luckily for Hunter, that may not have been the worst decision of the day. I've tried to explain what happened in the Dodgers-Mets game and I just can't give it justice. Just for fun, here's the official scorebook:

Russell Martin singles on a fly ball to right fielder Shawn Green.    Russell Martin to 2nd.  Double play, right fielder Shawn Green to second baseman Jose Valentin to catcher Paul Lo Duca.   Jeff Kent out at home.   Drew out at home.    Russell Martin to 2nd on the throw.

You're probably wondering how two guys can get called out at home on the same play. Me too. Thomas Boswell thinks it's one of the worst gaffes of all time. Let's let you decide which was worse.

I got to go with Hunter as making the bigger blunder only because of where it was in the game.  The Twins had just tied the score and with the game getting into the later innings, one mistake can spell disaster and that's what happened with Hunter.  The Dodgers blunder didnt ultimately decide there game with the Mets.....that would go to there inability to hit with runners in scoring position

I know it's a bit presumptuous to do this ... but let's say Drew stays at third. The next batter hit a double. Drew then scores.

Final score of the game 6-5. It's hard to argue that Drew didn't impact the outcome.
