A fight to remember: Floyd Mayweather Jr. to fight Amir Khan in near future
The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. seems devoid of existence in the future. Nonetheless, there is speculation about a fight that would catch a lot of interest from fans and media.
Recently, Floyd Mayweather Sr. expressed desire to see his son Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight with the British boxer Amir Khan. Floyd Mayweather Sr. wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. to take on and defeat Amir Khan even if that means abandoning the ongoing saga with Manny Pacquiao.
According to the press release from Floyd Mayweather Sr. the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Amir Khan would be less of competitive in nature and more of Amir Khan getting “beat up pretty bad”.
Floyd Mayweather Sr. admitted that the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Amir Khan would be quite appealing to fans and media. Floyd Mayweather Sr. also believes his son, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has the ability to take apart Amir Khan.
In spite of all the hype created by Floyd Mayweather Sr. the predicted fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Amir Khan could turn into a fairytale. The reason you might ask?
Well, Floyd Mayweather Sr. wants Amir Khan to take the test for performance enhancing drugs. If handled incorrectly Floyd Mayweather Sr.’s demand could turn into a blunt no from Amir Khan.
Talking to eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio Floyd Mayweather Sr. said:
“I would like to see Amir Khan get his a** whopped by my son, and let his a** test negative, and then let it be a negative fight on his end trying to whop my son…He’s definitely a target to get his a** whopped, Amir Khan, because my son should be able to tag him all day long…Amir Khan is going to get beat up pretty bad.”
The fire is already raging for this fight. However, let’s assess the possibility of this fight.
I admit! This fight is tough to predict. Both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Amir Khan have different skill sets and strengths. They both are well balanced fighters. Therefore, predicting a winner will be no easy task.
However, if this fight occurs before the end of this year Amir Khan has a greater chance of losing the fight. Amir Khan is presently preparing for his light welterweight fight on July 7th. Hence, the Brit would have very little time on his hands to prepare for Floyd Mayweather J. This also means that the probability of this fight occurring in the near future is very low.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. certainly knows how to take a punch and Amir Khan knows how to take it and get back up. However, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is prone to mistakes and Amir Khan has an unpredictable stamina.
Nevertheless, this fight could actually occur, most probably next year. As for Floyd Mayweather Sr. demands for test for performance enhancing drugs, Amir Khan should respond with request for an IQ test as the British boxer has already been tested for performance enhancing drugs because of the 2012 London Olympics.
