About Me:
I love the cubs and various other teams and enjoy a wide variety of sports.. I will probably not win too many popularity contests and that is a shame for me.. but I will come and participate and vote and comment and try to gain faniq points when they come up. lol.. I love sports and I think many on here do too.. I look forward to the discussions and hopefully we all learn and laugh along the way. :) feel free to come talk to me if you want-- my shoutout section and/or mailbox on here are always open as far as I know. :)
- A good day for Cubs and their fans
- For a day, ISU fans and players learn how the Washington Generals likely feel .. Drake's recruiting class is probably about to walk out to ScottTrade floor and hit a 3 any minute.
- Birds' fans no longer have to be so defensive as team's D steps up
- ISU takes 2nd place in valley.
- quick ISU blog before bed
Wind blowing out to Left.. Would have been nice to have Soriano.. ok, there I said it.. the cubs will miss him, especially as the weather warms up.
However, I am happy to see Eric Patterson get some playing time. If he can work out his game and stick with the club, he will be valuable. Speed is a nice commodity and I have been hearing good things about him for a few years. Let's not punish him for whatever issues we had with Corey.
I enjoyed the peek into the past with the throwback coverage to the 1948 (for those who don't know, they were honoring 60 year anniversary). Plus, it was nice to avoid the sight of the Braves 2-run HR being replayed multiple times.
Normally, a 2-run HR early is not cause of major concern but Hudson is a very good pitcher, and while he mnay not have had his best stuff, he pitched well enough to hold the cubs down.
Some will question the decision to let Zambrano bat with 2 runners on and 2 out late in the game, especially when the Braves brought in a fresh arm from the bullpen. Especially after the Cubs pull Zambrano after 1 batter in the ney half inning. However, if zambrano singles in the tying run and then goes back out to continue holding them down some of the same people would be praising the brilliance of trusting your starter who is a pretty good hitter, especially for a pitcher.
Cubs continue to show their talent for scoring late in the game, as they go into the 7th down 2-0 and scratch out a run in the 7th and 1 in the 9th.
Speaking of the 9th. Soto had a good swing there, too bad it didn't carry enough.
Jim Edmonds continues to work his way into the hearts of those willing to give him a chance by hitting the tying HR in the 9th inning when the Cubs were 2 outs away from losing. And doing it just as many were sitting back down form Soto's close-call with a HR, it was even better drama. Oh, and let's not forget he also hit the sac fly in the 7th to get them on the scoreboard. So he knocked in both runs in the first 9 innings.
I will admit, I like the way he has handled things and he has made it a lot easier to root for him.
Huge moment late in the game- Zambrano walks leadoff hitter and is replaced. McCann doubles off Eyre and eventually the Braves had the bases-loaded with 0 out. Eyre comes back and strikes out the next 2 (thus keeping the guy at 3rd from scoring), then Marmol came in and finished it with a K. Given the fact that the Cubs would only score 2 in the 1st 9 innings, that was a game saving performance.
Wood with another strong performance.
Yes, I am writing this as I watch the game and thoughts come to me, so please forgive the fact that it might not be in perfect order.
And then Johnson gets hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to win it !!!
Cubs win !!!!
hard fought win and exciting to watch.
Next up, Toronto.
