McLaren’s coveted Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton was favored for a victory in Hungary from the beginning of the weekend. Well, the Briton lived up to expectations on Sunday to win the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Lotus forced him to break sweat for the victory, but Lewis Hamilton didn’t mind the extra efforts he had to put in. As a matter of fact, Lewis Hamilton was happy with the competition he received from other teams in Budapest, Hungary.

With a victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton is 47 points of the table leader Fernando Alonso. Nonetheless, this victory means Lewis Hamilton has geared up for a shot at the Formula One Championship title.

Lewis Hamilton also equaled Aryton Senna’s record of three wins at Budapest on Sunday. At the post-race press conference Lewis Hamilton showed that he was unaware of leveling Aryton Senna’s record.

“… is that so? Lewis Hamilton exclaimed with a surprise. “That is music to my ears! (laughs) But indeed, what a great weekend was that? I am so proud of the team. In fact it was one of the toughest races that I can remember.

“And to be honest, I loved every single second of it - to be so much under pressure, never knowing how long your tyres will last - and I really made them last! I knew that I was quick, but in the end it was all about managing the gap. I had to make sure that I had a big enough gap in the last corner. And I did. Kimi (Raikkonen) caught up in the middle sector, but the last corner was what really made it. To win on the weekend when the Olympics started I had the feeling that I made my contribution as well.”

Lewis Hamilton also admitted that victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix was a huge step forward for him in the standings. Lewis Hamilton expressed that he was plotting a comeback in the second half of the Formula One season.

“Yes, we know that we have made a huge leap forward and we still have to work hard in the second half of the season to keep staying ahead of these guys as we did today,” Lewis Hamilton said. “

Lewis Hamilton also confessed that keeping ahead of Lotus at the Hungarian circuit was a “pretty hard job”.

“Lotus was phenomenally quick today and keeping them behind was a pretty hard job - and we’ve managed it,” Lewis Hamilton said. “So we all can sail off to a relaxing summer break without even thinking about racing - just to come back strong again in one month in Spa.”
