Aaron Harang, I'm Sorry
by
10/12/07

Dusty Baker, 5-Way ChiliReds fans, you may want to get out your toothpicks.   And if you are Aaron Harang, you may want to find a way to be traded.

Apparently the Cincinnati Reds are favoring Dusty Baker as their next manager.  I know that Critical Fanatic would be glad to know that Baker could be possibly ruining arms for one of the Cubs' division rivals.

The Enquirer is hosting a poll to see what their fans think of having Baker as their manager.  Who are we to argue with a great idea? Would you want the destroyer of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood's careers as your manager?

I think getting LaRussa away to another team in the Division would be a hard sell, and Girardi is likely going to wait and see what happens to Torre in New York before committing to anything.

If that means you are now going to have Brenly as your #1 candidate, I feel for you.

Brenly is not MY number one candidate rather the REDS's according to your analysis of the the 5 names I posted. Considering the penny-pinching ownership or financial constraints(budget) which ever way you want to view it, I personally would not like them to spend millions on a manager. I would rather retain Mckanin or hire within for someone that costs less than a million dollars a year and then apply the money that would have been spent on a "big name manager" towards a closer.(Francisco Cordero seems to be the prize closer on the Free Agent market.) The Reds should be active during Free Agency this year considering they lose several expiring contracts and should have around 30-35 million to play with assuming Bob Castellini raises payroll 10-15 million. Trouble is the Reds need pitching and this year's free agent crop is very weak besides Cordero.
