The managing genius of Dusty Baker was front and center again yesterday. With two on in the bottom of the 9th, Adam Dunn was asked to sacrifice bunt. Yes, Adam Dunn. Fortunately, Dunn took the first pitch for a ball after squaring away. The second he botched and fouled off. The third he belted deep into the right field seats for a 4-2 Reds win.
Apparently Dunn has been bragging to Dusty about his growing bunt skills. Only Dusty would buy that.
Let the big man swing even if he is batting .211. Reds 4, Indians 2.
Zit0-8 Barry continues to pitch better, but better still isn't good enough for a win. Zito went five innings, walked six and gave up eight hits. Somehow, that only translated into two earned runs. One more run than his anemic offense could muster. We applaud he efforts to keep pace with Brandon Webb's wins. White Sox 3, Giants 1.
Boston Brew Party Dice-K moved to 7-0 in the 1st game, Mike Lowell drove in 4 in the 2nd and the Brewers didn't blow a save in either. Red Sox 2, Brewers 0.
Johan Messes with Yankees Both New York teams desperately needed a win and the borough with a better pitcher won. Johan Santana gave up three home runs to Jeter, Giambi and Abreu, but Kyle Farnsworth gave up three bigs runs in the 7th to the Mets. Steinbrenner explosion coming again soon. Mets 7, Yankees 4.
