Blog Photo - Adrain Peterson's son passes away from head injuriesA humongously sad and depressing development in today's disturbing news about a young son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Sioux Falls, SD police are reporting that Peterson's two-year-old son has passed away. As we reported earlier today, Peterson's son suffered traumatic head injuries when brutally beaten by a boyfriend of the young boy's mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adrian Peterson, his family and everyone who knew this youngster.

That is not the little boy who passed away in the photo at left. That is little Adrian Peterson, Jr., who is also Peterson's son. The name and identity of Peterson's slain son have not been released, though Sioux Fall police say they will release the name next week.

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader is reporting that Adrian Peterson's son has died from head injuries after a vicious assault by his mother's boyfriend, 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson of Sioux Falls. Peterson is still expected to play Sunday when the Vikings play the Carolina Panthers Sunday in Minnesota.

"The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls and text messages from my fellow players,"  Peterson tweeted this morning. "God Bless everyone and thank u so much."

It must be particularly difficult for Peterson, not only because the young victim was not publicly known to be his son. It's also got to be tough because his charity the All Day Foundation specifically works with victims of child abuse. Peterson also does a great deal of work with Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. He'll surely be reminded of this incident each time he sets foot in a children's hospital.

A candlelight vigil is being scheduled for the young boy tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls.
