As it turns out, it looks like it might be something entirely more upsetting.
According to a TMZ report, it involves Peterson's 2-year old son. From TMZ:
Officials tell us they've arrested the suspect, 27-year-old Joseph Patterson ... who's been charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant.
According to law enforcement, emergency responders arrived to the apartment where Peterson's son was living at 5:46 PM on Wednesday ... and found the child unresponsive.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and medical experts determined the injuries were consistent with abuse. Law enforcement sources tell us the child suffered severe head injuries.
This is about as disgusting as any story I've seen in a long time. If it's true, I can't imagine how Peterson is feeling right now, and it's no surprise that he left the team immediately to be with his son.
Hopefully his child makes a complete recovery, and hopefully the abuser is sent to prison for a long time, if the allegations are true.
Our thoughts are with Adrian Peterson and his family in this terrible time.
UPDATE: ESPN reporter Ben Goessling, who covers the Vikings, says that Peterson is back in Minnesota and will practice with the team today.
