AdvoCare V100 Bowl preview: Arizona vs. Boston College
Arizona (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) vs. Boston College (7-5, 4-4 ACC)
December 31, 12:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Arizona Players to Watch:
Ka’Deem Carey, RB—The best running back in Arizona school history and one of the college football’s most illustrious ball carriers throughout the last several years, Carey is always the center of the game plan.
Marquis Flowers, LB—Flowers is a physical player that will have one of the more difficult tasks of this bowl season: stop Andre Williams up the middle.
Boston College Players to Watch:
Andre Williams, RB—In 11 games this season (not including the season finale when he was injured), Williams averaged 29.1 carries per game. He’s a gladiator in the backfield ready for battle, as his 2,102 rushing yards indicate.
Chase Rettig, QB—Any quarterback would love to have a 2,000-yard rusher in his backfield, and Rettig has done a nice job of sustaining a balanced offense by managing the game.
Arizona Key to Victory:
Plug the middle. Andre Williams has one of the strongest lower bodies out of any running back in the country and runs very low, making his greatest strength finding gaps through the guards. Boston College does not want to throw the ball, but will have to if Williams can’t bully his way through the middle.
Boston College Key to Victory:
Force B.J. Denker to throw the ball over 22 times. Arizona is 3-5 when having to rely on its passing game, as Denker is a much more efficient passer with a heavy dose of the run game. Boston College needs to do a good job of containing Ka’Deem Carey and limiting breakaway runs.
Line: Arizona (-7.5)
Prediction: It’s a battle between two of college football’s elite running backs. Both teams have a top-20 ground attack, while neither have done a great job of stopping the run on defense. Whichever team can come away with more tackles for loss should win.
Arizona 30, Boston College 22
