Arrrr ... I don't think it's just a coincidence that Jon Gruden coaches the Buccaneers.
Seriously, it's International Talk Like A Pirate Day, so I request pirate speak for all comments on the blog today (that may be a lot to ask). My guess is that you're asking how in the world this was created:
Yar! That's quite a story. I think I'll have to add "create a holiday out of thin air" to my list of goals. The day started in 1995, when two friends, Mark Summers and John Baur, were playing racquetball and started screaming at each other in pirate-speak. They decided that not only did it make the game more interesting, but it should be done on a regular basis. They decided Sept. 19 was as good a day as any to begin a holiday, and the day sat largely unnoticed until, seven years later, columnist Dave Barry got wind of the scheme and wrote about it.
And International Talk Like a Pirate Day was born.
I also ask which sports personality would make the best Pirate ... and don't answer Jason Bay.
