THE BAND IS OUT ON THE ... oh, wait, wrong game. Hard to tell the difference with these announcers.
Stanford upsetting USC stole all the headlines for obvious reasons, but one of the best finishes of the college football season happened in Kalamazoo.
Western Michigan was leading Akron 38-31 with 15 seconds to go, when they inexplicably opted to take a safety instead of punt. As a result the above play was able to happen: Akron's Alphonso Owen danced around the 25-yard line nearly tackled but found Andre Jones to running up the sideline to finish the job. A walk-off kick lateral kick return.
Western's coach Bill Cubit was obviously beside himself following the game, well chronicled at SMQ.
Just looked at the box score and what actually happened was touchdown by Akron, then a safety with 15 seconds left to even give them any chance. Then following that was of course that kick return.
What I want to know is how the WMU guy was safetied (?). All you need to do is kneel the ball.

Like I said above, Western Michigan decided to take a safety on 4th down instead of punting to hopefully kickoff/punt in better field position.

I've never liked that play.
Oh, lol. I read the title, "THE BAND IS OUT ON THE ... oh, wait, wrong game. Hard to tell the difference with these announcers.", and then I had to watch the video. Next thing I find myself looking at the box score. Guess I should have finished reading.
I guess Western Michigan had 3 timeouts? Surprised I missed this because I swear I watched College Football Live yesterday. Like I am right now.
