Al Jefferson Carried Off the Court
With 5:41 left in the third quarter, the hotly recruited free agent Al Jefferson was carried off the court after landing awkwardly on his right ankle. Fortunately, x-rays came back negative for the high-scoring center. However, he returned to the court on crutches.
"It's sore as [expletive], real sore -- that's all I can tell you," Jefferson said. "It feels like I've got a heartbeat in it. All that matters is that it's negative. It ain't nothing I've never been through before, so I've just got to get treatment and make sure I'm ready for the season."
There is still about 3 weeks left before opening day, but Bobcats coach Steve Clifford isn’t sure whether Jefferson will make it back or not.
"I don't think they know how severe it is because of the swelling, but they're going to re-evaluate it [Saturday]," Clifford said. "Until then, I don't think we'll know [the extent]."
The good news is that the Bobcats have just drafted a high-flying big man named Cody Zeller out of Indiana. This could be Zeller’s opportunity to take the rookie of the year award right out of the gate because once Al Jeff comes back into the line-up, Zeller may not got the same amount of touches.
