Just when you thought you were no longer interested in the Penn State scandal... IT PULLS YOU BACK IN! We receive news today from Hollywood that a movie based on the life of former Penn State coach Joe Paterno is in the works. The film currently has the working title "Happy Valley", will be directed by Brian De Palma, and the Joe Paterno role will be played by the legendary Al Pacino. That's right, Al Pacino landed the Joe Paterno role so put him up on that Cadillac board. HOOOO WAHHHH!!!
The movie blog Deadline broke the news that Al Pacino will play Joe Paterno in the movie version of Paterno's life. Brian De Palma, director of the original "Mission:Impossible" movie and the original 1976 "Carrie", will direct the film based on Joe Posnanksi's book "Paterno" -- the official Paterno biography that was being written right when the Jerry Sandusky scandal broke.
Brian De Palma has previously directed Al Pacino in "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way".
Pacino has played a football coach before in the the 1999 film "Any Given Sunday" And now that Pacino is getting on in years, he really does have a separated at birth thing going with his appearance relative to that of Joe Paterno. This really is a great casting choice. No word yet on who will play Jerry Sandusky, the assistant coach whose scandal brought Paterno down. But I'm pretty sure we can say that Franco Harris will not be interested in appearing in this movie as himself.

It would never happen, but I think Chevy Chase as Sandusky would be epic.

If anyone can pull off wearing white tube socks with black shoes it's Pacino. I'm sure those Sandusky auditions are gonna be a real hoot. They should just tab Brian Dennehy and call it a day. If Leslie Nielsen were still alive, he would have been great for the role.
