Remember all that preseason talk about this being Clemson's year to finally take the next step and become a legitimate title contender?
Alabama's defense came ready to play from the start by holding the high powered duo of CJ Spiller and James Davis to 21 yards on 8 carries. A lot of that had to do with the fact Clemson was breaking in four new offensive linemen but Alabama's defense looked stout all night. Alabama was able to hold Clemson to only 189 yards and 188 of those yards were through the air, while controlling the ball by running 79 plays to Clemson's 40 plays.
The lone bright spot for Clemson was CJ Spiller taking the opening kickoff of the 2nd half 96 yards to the endzone, but Clemson couldn't muster much more on the offensive side of the ball.
After this dominating display, we really need to take a second look at Alabama. The offense looked great and if they can keep that intensity level up on the defensive side of the ball, the SEC just got even tougher than it already was going to be.
As for the ACC, well things look bad for the ACC. The top two teams in the conference were emabarrassed today with Va Tech losing to East Carolina and Clemson just getting beat up and down the field in this game. If it hadn't been for Wake Forest winning against a bad Baylor team, then the ACC would drop below the WAC in my book.
