Is 8th grade too early to offer a football scholarship?

Blog Photo - Alabama and LSU offer scholarship to 8th grade football playerNick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide have offered a football scholarship to 8th grade phenom Dylan Moses, who is viewed as the best prospect in the 2017 class.

The craziest thing is that Saban wasn't even the first SEC school to offer him a scholarship. LSU offered Moses a scholarship last summer, before his 8th grade year even started.

At only 14 years old, Dylan Moses is 6'1" and weighs 215. He also has a 34" vertical, and was timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

He hasn't made a decision yet between LSU and Alabama, mostly because he really doesn't have to decide for another 4 years. He hasn't even STARTED his high school career.

Based on what we've seen from him so far, this kid is going to be an absolute stud. He has played running back and linebacker so far, and his father wants him to learn how to be a defensive back as well.

If his skills even slightly translate to the next level, there's really no doubt that he'll be an absolute stud. He's completely dominating his current competition, and he already looks like he has the body to play in the NFL.

This kid could be scary. Check out his highlight reel:

As good as he appears to be... is 8th grade too early for him to be getting scholarship offers? Or are coaches like Saban and Les Miles just doing their due diligence?
