A rather bizarre story out of Alabama today, or maybe it isn't that bizarre in all honesty. After all, it is Alabama. Anyway, it seems that following 'Bama's win over LSU on Saturday, a couple of fans of the two teams got a bit, uh, violent.Apparently out in the Alabama boondocks, Dennis Smith, an LSU fan, for some reason called Michael Williams, a fan of the Crimson Tide, after the game Saturday evening and - shock of shocks - a heated argument ensued.
Rather then just let things simmer down, Smith decided to head over to Williams' house along with Donna Smith, who I guess was his cousin or something. And you can probably guess what happened from there.
Soon, the Smiths arrived at Williams' home and the men wound up in a physical altercation, officers said.
Smith retrieved a pistol from his vehicle, and threatened Williams, who armed himself with a shotgun and fired two blasts, striking and killing Dennis Smith, officers said.
Donna Smith then threatened Williams, who shot and killed the woman, they said.

What makes this all even worse, is that Donna Smith was a relative of Williams's girlfriend. Something tells me Williams might have some trouble explaining that one to his significant other, to say the least.
Just so you know, investigators said "alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the killings", which translates as "alcohol was DEFINITELY a factor in the killings."
Williams was arrested and has been charged with two counts of murder.
I think as big of fans as we all are of various sports, it's important to note that when it's all said and done, these are simply games. Sports should never be about life and death, despite what many fanatical soccer fans may say. Besides, about the last thing I want is to get shot while I vehemently argue that the Raiders suck 3.5 times more than my 49ers even though we've both lost 2 games.
