Blog Photo - Albert Pujols placed on DL, could be out for the seasonAlbert Pujols's nightmare run with the Los Angeles Angels only got worse today. Pujols was placed on the 15 day disabled list with a torn ligament in his foot, specifically the planter fascia ligament. The injury will keep Pujols out at least a few weeks, but it is possible that he will be out for the rest of the season. There is no word yet on how Pujols will be treated, but surgery is on the table, which would end his season. He could also receive a cortisone shot and attempt to play.

Pujols is hitting .258/.330/.437 with 17 home runs this year. All of those slash lines, plus OPS and OPS+, would be career lows. The DL stint means he'll hit a career low in homers as well, although even if healthy that probably would've happened anyway. July has been his best month of the season though, with an .831 OPS. Even accounting for the lower offensive environment now compared to his prime, it's still not what Pujols was in St. Louis.

After this season, there are still 8 years left on his contract with the Angels, with another $212 million owed.

Probably not the worst idea to call it a season.  The Angels don't look like they have it in them to make a serious run this season, Pujols can get an extra couple of months to heal and hopefully everybody can come back stronger next year to try and make Artie Moreno a winner
