Alex Ovechkin is one of the best players in the NHL. He's second in the league in both goals and points, and is leading the Washington Capitals to the 5th best point total in the NHL, and a commanding lead in the Southeast division.

Turns out Alex has a bit of a dark side as well. He nailed former teammate Jamie Heward into the boards during the Capitals 7-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Heward didn't get up, and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher. Heward suffered a concussion, but no word yet on the severity or long term effects. Good luck to him, as this one looked pretty rough.

0	Alex Ovechkin is what hockey players should be. He plays hard every play. He knows how to play all aspects of the game. Most just specialize and the heck with the rest. I haven't read anything new on Jamie Heward, I hope he returns soon.

According to Tarik's blog on the Washington Post, Heward was released from the hospital and is on his way back to Tampa. OV has shown a real gusto for the highlight reel hit, but this one wasn't one of them - really an unfortunate move by Heward to put his head down at the wrong time. I do have a concern the OV is going to attract a suspension at some point because he is so fast and hits so hard - but you have to love the way the guy plays hockey.

0	I love Ov's heart....he plays hard every day. This kind of injury happens all the time...let's not pick on one of the brightest stars in the NHL for one hard hit. Last time I checked, this is professional ice hockey and you are supposed to hit hard - that is what puts the fans in the seats.
