My perception of goal scoring accomplishments in the NHL was forever jaded after NHL '94. Scoring 60 goals with one player was to be expected. But apparently it has been since 1996 that we've seen a 60 goals in the real thing, courtesy of some guy named Mario Lemieux.

Well, Alexander Ovechkin is going to fix all that very soon. Last night he managed a hat trick in just the first period, goals 50, 51, and 52. With 15 games remaining, breaking the 60 goal barrier is inevitable.

Actual hockey fans: Is it just me or is Ovechkin much better than Sidney Crosby?

(Side note: Every time I start to think hockey is coming around to the masses, and it's slowly getting there, I have a moment that reminds me where it is. My roommate, big sports fan, asked who this Ovechkin guy was last night watching these highlights.)
