Alexander Ovechkin Scores Game-Winning Goal for Capitals
by CriticalFanatic

As far as playoff debuts go, you can't ask for a whole lot more from Alexander Ovechkin. OK, maybe a few more goals, but if he was going to be limited to just one he put it to good use.

With 4:30 to play, Capitals and Flyers tied at four goals apiece, the league's leading scorer (and MVP, hopefully) delivered with his first career playoff goal.

They're puck crazy in DC.

Mike Wise of the Wash Post enjoyed the breathtaking goal, but he's giddy over what happened afterwards.

"And yet, as good as Ovechkin's goal was, it's what happened after that resonates. It's the patented Lambeau Leap into that pane of glass, the only obstacle separating the zealots from their athletic hero. It was the commune at that moment, between a 22-year-old phenom and the frenetic fans of the Washington Capitals, that bordered on spiritual."

If there's someone capable of converting me into paying attention to hockey for more than a few minutes, it's definitely OV. His work is already having an effect.

When is Game 2? I'm watching.

Capitals 5, Flyers 4

With the Coyotes not in the playoffs as usual, I'm definitely on the Caps bandwagon. If anybody can make hockey more popular, it's him.

The excitement this guys brings to every goal he scores is amazing.  Watching him skate off in a frenzy jumping up and down and all around with a huge smile makes me want to do the same thing.  I hope any non hockey fan that ever sees him will want more.

What an awful play from Kukkonen. Not so much being unable to corral the bouncing puck but that lazy pass was dreadful. He should be watching from the press box for the next game at least.
