The Final Four for this year's tournament have been decided. North Carolina will play Villanova, and Michigan State matches up against Connecticut. We all have our opinions on who will win, but while we wait a few days for the actual games to happen, let's play some "what if?" games.

Who would win a 4-team tournament between the all-time greats from each of these schools? They are all schools with storied histories, and at least one championship. Villanova has 1, UConn and Michigan State have 2, and UNC has 4. Here are the all-time starting lineups for each of the teams.

North Carolina Tar Heels

G Michael Jordan, G Vince Carter, F James Worthy, F Rasheed Wallace, C Bob McAdoo
Villanova Wildcats

G Randy Foye, G Kerry Kittles, F Tim Thomas, F Paul Arizin, C Jim Washington

The first matchup features a stacked UNC team, with NBA Hall of Famers Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Bob McAdoo, along with Rasheed Wallace, one of the most complete players in the game over the past decade or so, and Vince Carter, an athletic freak. On the other side of the court is the underdog Villanova, who are led by their strong guard play, as well as HOFer Paul Arizin.

The next matchup should be a little tighter, in my humble opinion. Magic Johnson leads a pretty solid team of Michigan State Spartans against UConn, who are also a very complete team, led by Ray Alled, one of the best shooters in the game. I give a slight edge to Michigan State, but only because of Magic.

Michigan State Spartans

G Magic Johnson, G Jason Richardson, F Morris Peterson, F Zach Randolph, C Kevin Willis
Connecticut Huskies

G Ray Allen, G Richard Hamilton, F Rudy Gay, F Clifford Robinson, C Emeka Okafor

Vote for the teams that you think would win these Final 4 matchups, and we'll have the finals later this week. Let us know what you think of each team, and of course feel free to let me know who you think should have been on a certain team.

I hate to say it but I think All time Carolina would just about blow out any all time team not named UCLA..  as for this scenario, Magic carries Michigan St.  to the final game where Jordan and the 'Heels send him and the Spartans back North with their tails between their legs..

NC beats Michigan St in the final, when you have Jordan/Magic in the mix fuhgeddaboudit

Put Jordan And A All-Time Division II Team And They Would Still Win With Those All Time Teams. (Did I Just Say That Out Loud)

I think Kansas could give most teams a run for their money:
G JoJoWhite
G Paul Pierce
F Danny Manning
F Bill Bridges
C Wilt Chamberlain

And if you could play with an all-guard lineup, Arizona could field an all-world team from the 90's alone.

And yeah... UCLA would own up on a LOT of teams.

G Baron Davis
G Gail Goodrich
F Reggie Miller
F Bill Walton
C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I hate to have any doubt in Michael Jordan's ability to do what he did... but young Magic was better than young (collegiate) Jordan.  In the end, the UCLA team would be impossible to beat.  When you have to move Bill Walton to the Power Forward because the greatest college player of all time is playing Center, that's pretty good.

You have to like UNC out of those 3 because on top of the starting five, they would have Sam Perkins, Jerry Stackhouse, probably Psycho T now, and a couple other that would come off the bench for the Tar Heels

Louisville might be the funnest team out there...

G Darrell Griffith
G Rodney McCray
F Junior Bridgeman
F Pervis Ellison
C Wes Unseld

A lot of people forget about Darrell Griffith (Dr. Dunkenstein)... that was coach Denny Crum's heyday at Louisville and earlier in Louisville's history, Wes Unseld was a beast.  People are still trying to imitate his two-hands over-the-head outlet pass from under the basket to half-court.

Also the strange named squad... I think it's easy to go with UNC.  Tarheels would leave a double sack pack on foreheads.

Carloina would win, but MSU needs Steve Smith and Shawn Respert in place of MoPete and Zach Randolph.  I love MoPete, but Shawn Respert was the better college player.  The only reason he didn't make excel in the pro ranks is becuase he had cancer.

I wonder if maybe Greg Kelser too.  He was the 2nd option on the 1979 National Championship team with Magic.

That's a good call, I'd almost have to give him the nod over Jason Richardson..

GREG KELSER - 6'-7" forward, 1975-79
  • left MSU as all-time career scoring leader (2014 points) - now #4
  • led the team in scoring three consecutive years
  • current all-time MSU rebounding leader (1092, four seasons)
  • All-American (1979)
  • first-round pick of the Detroit Pistons in 1979

I dont think anyone touches UNC... I believe they blow out Villanova, and would play Michigan State in the Final with UNC winning that hands down...That is one sick line-up...I forgot about Vince Carter playing there...

I almost forgot...where is Dante Calabria on UNC's all time team?

You left off about 10-15 Carolina players

How is that possible, when only 5 players can see the court at once?

Man ... UNC has been loaded for so long ... And the all UCLA team looks awesome.

If you take away Magic from the Spartan team, they are a very ordinary bunch.

And they are?

UConn is pretty ordinary also.

Carolina would easliy take the teams here - but a round robin between UNC, Kansas and UCLA would be a college hoops junkies dream!

I like that UCLA team.  Kansas isns't bad either.  Both of those would do much better than the others vs UNC, but I still would pick UNC any day of the week!!

The Oklahoma team wouldn't be a push over either...

Mookie Blaylock, Hollis Price, Alvan Adams, Stacy King, Blake Griffin, Eduardo Najera, Brent Price, Wayman Tisdale

That would be a solid team.

I'll throw another state school out there: Illinois with Kendall Gill, Frank Williams, Deron Williams, Kenny Battle, Sergio McClain, Nick Anderson, Roger Powell, James Augustine...they're a little guard heavy, but they would probably be a bit tenacious...

How about the team that Georgetown would put on the court.

G-Sleepy Floyd
G-Allen Iverson
F-Alonzo Mourning
F-Patrick Ewing
C-Dikembe Mutombo

I would like to see would dare drive into that front court. You can also put Othella Harrington at the 3. The weakness is they would not have a true SF. But They should eat up all the rebounds.

How about Antawn Jamison on the UNC bench? Just in case Sheed does his usual routine & gets thrown out of the game in the 1st half.

An Arizona team of Mike Bibby, Jason Terry, Sean Elliot, Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye could give some teams a run

You are right about much of that... too bad this poll is only about who would win out of the all time greats from just the 4 teams that are in this years final four. Perhaps we should put together a bracket of 64 all time teams and then vote on that?

I think UNC wins this whole thing hands down...

And while it is fun to read about the best Kansas team, or Missouri Team, or UCLA, Arizona and the rest... none of those teams are in the final four this year. Isn't this poll about who would win out of the all time teams from this years final four and not the all time best teams of all time?

I guess there's really no point... it's just kinda fun.

One of these days I'll put together a post with 16 or 32 of the top teams and we'll make a tournament of it. I think that would be a good time.
