The Montreal Alouettes made their way to the 2009 Grey Cup in dominating fashion yesterday, behind the arm of Anthony Calvillo who threw an incredible 5 touchdown passes. The Al's slammed the BC Lions into submission, trouncing them 56-18. The Alouettes will represent the Eastern Conference at the Grey Cup in Calgary next Sunday.The deciding game between the Calgary Stampeders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders was not such a walk in the park for the Riders, as the game was tied at 10 at the end of the first half. The second half saw more intense competition as the Stamps managed another TD under the leadership of quarterback, Henry Burris. The Roughriders scored two TD's however, to win the game 28-17
The Roughriders had the definite advantage, however, having defeated the Stampeders in both regular season games the two teams played.
This will be a history making game as the Roughriders and Alouettes have never met for the Championship Cup in all the history of the CFL. In fact, the Roughriders were once the laughingstock of the league, and this will be only their eighth appearance in the Grey Cup since 1948, while the Alouettes will appear for the seventh time this decade.
The Al's are the distinct favorites for the Grey Cup contest, but the game will take place in McMahon Stadium in Calgary and the Roughriders will be the home team. Added to the short distance for Roughriders' fans to travel and green should be the prominent color in the stands.
The game gets underway, live, on TSN at 6:00 pm ET on Sunday, November 29th.
