Ancelotti keen on Champions League trophy and breaking the Treble curse
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti claims his side has toiled very hard to put return on track for silverware this season. The Italian boss claims he wants to “decorate” Real Madrid’s season with the long sought-after 10th Champions League trophy, ‘La Decima’.
Ancelotti got off to a turbulent start to his maiden journey at Real Madrid. However, the former AC Milan boss has now led the Spanish football giants to 26 games without defeat in all competitions.
Real Madrid looks stronger than they have done so in years under Ancelotti. They have managed to lift themselves up above Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on the La Liga table and have qualified for the Copa del Rey final against their Catalan archrivals.
Ancelotti, who has the opportunity to lift a treble in his first season at Real Madrid, is keen on becoming among the few managers who have lifted the Champions League trophy from two clubs.
“We want to play the final of the Champions League,” Ancelotti said. “Obsession? ‘La Decima’ is a word you can hear again and again, it is a big motivation for everyone. We have worked for seven months to build a good solid base. We have built the house, now we have to decorate it.”
Despite their glorious history Real Madrid have never managed to acquire the actual Treble; one that includes the league, the Spanish Cup and the European Cup. But under Ancelotti it appears as if this curse will finally be broken.
Real Madrid long-time captain Iker Casillas told Real Madrid’s official website that the club is on its way to set the record straight and finally challenge for the Treble. The Spain international believes his side is in a strong position to acquire silverware in Spain and Europe.
“I would love us to achieve the first Treble in history,” Casillas said. “Right now, we are exactly where we want to be, and that is in the fight for all three competitions.
“I would love the final headline of the season to be that we won the Treble. We know it is difficult because a lot of teams want to win it all. I hope to be able to read that headline on May 25, that Real Madrid won everything possible.”
Real Madrid will play against Schalke for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie on Wednesday. On Sunday they will be play in the derby against local rivals and title challengers Atletico Madrid.
