Anderson Silva defeats Chael Sonnen in the second round of UFC 148

Anderson Silva ended his rivalry with Chael Sonnen at UFC 148 with a vicious knee to the chest that put a stop to almost two years of bravado and trash talk from the challenger.

The fight opened with Sonnen meeting the champion in the center of the octagon and taking him down in under four seconds. Sonnen proceeded to take hold of Anderson on the ground but could not produce any significant offense. The round ended with no real damage being done, and Silva walking away with a smile on his face.

The second round would go differently as Sonnen was unable to take Silva to the ground and was forced to stand and exchanging with the champion, which is never a good idea.

Midway through the second round Sonnen went for a wild spinning back first and lost his balance and fell to the floor. It was the beginning for the end for Sonnen. Silva swarmed the challenger and hit him with a vicious knee to the chest that essential sealed the fight.

Sonnen was gracious in defeat saying “The better man always wins, and tonight the better man won”

Here is a quick run down of the card:

Forrest Griffin defeats Tito Ortiz via Unanimous decision
Cung Le defeats Patrick Cote via Unanimous decision
Demian Maia defeats Dong Hyun Kim via referee stoppage
