Saturday night UFC and Affliction went head to head in terms of trying to draw viewers with top tier talent. UFC was on for free and featured middleweight champion Anderson "Spider" Silva - who many people believe is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world - beginning his march up the light heavyweight mountain against James Irvin.
Meanwhile, Affliction, which was on Pay-Per-View, featured Fedor Emelianenko, currently the best MMA heavyweight by far and a fighter who is frequently mentioned in the same best pound-for-pound fighter discussions as Silva.
And both men didn't disappoint.
Silva took care of Irvin quickly with a bone crunching punch directly to the face after Irvin failed to connect on a kick to the head.
As quick as Silva's fight was, Emelianenko's fight was even faster. He matched up against Tim Sylvia and dropped Sylvia with a vicious series of combos before finishing off Sylvia with a submission hold.
Both fighters are clearly at the top of their game, and while they'll never actually be able to square off against each other, Saturday night proved that the question about who the superior fighter is certainly open for debate.
