The Chelsea-reject Andres Villas-Boas has been appointed as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur. This news was confirmed by Tottenham Hotspur following the release of a statement on their official website.
Andres Villas-Boas replaces Harry Redknapp, who was sacked in June after spending nearly four years as the boss of White Hart Lane. Harry Redknapp’s era saw Tottenham Hotspur morph into a new football powerhouse in Europe.
Harry Redknapp took Tottenham Hotspur from the bottom half of English Premier League into the top four.
However, in spite of all the good Harry Redknapp did for Tottenham Hotspur, a few bad decisions led the club towards it downfall. For instance, Harry Redknapp was unable to build a team or find replacements for his players in case some of his top notch players decided to jump ship.
The biggest mistake from Harry Redknapp was giving up on Champions League action. The first domino of Harry Redknapp’s exit fell when Harry Redknapp declared Champions League action as a secondary objective.
Tottenham Hotspur was on the verge of acquiring Champions League action last season but a stream of poor performances led them out of contention. This is also why a bunch of players are opting for a move out of Tottenham Hotspur.
By bringing in the former Chelsea and Porto manager Andres Villas-Boas, Tottenham Hotspur is aiming to change the image of the club into one that will continue to fight for Champions League action and honors of an English Premier League title.
“Tottenham Hotspur are a great club with a strong tradition and fantastic support, both at home and throughout the world. I feel privileged to become coach,” Andres Villas-Boas said in an interview on Tottenham Hotspur’s official website.
“This is one of the most exciting coaching positions in the Premier League. I have had several discussions with the chairman [Daniel Levy] and the board and I share their vision for the future progress of the club.
“This is a squad any coach would love to work with and together I believe we can bring success in the seasons ahead,” Andres Villas-Boas concluded.
Tottenham Hotspur acquired the fourth spot in English Premier League last season. The London outfit was destined to play in Champions League next season but fate had other plans. Tottenham Hotspur’s derby rivals Chelsea won the Champions League which gave them the honors of becoming the fourth team to qualify for the prestigious tournament next season.
Many players have decided to leave the Tottenham Hotspur this season. Although, the list of players jumping ships is not clear Tottenham Hotspur hope Andres Villas-Boas will change the fate of the club.
