There are conflicting reports as to how close Andrew Bynum is to returning to the floor. Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach, Doug Collins, said that Andrew Bynum is nowhere close to returning. After Collins saw what kind of shape Bynum was in, he said that he looked like he hadn’t played basketball in 9 months; which has indeed been the case.
However, according to John Mitchell, of phillly.com, Bynum recently participated in a 5-on-5 scrimmage. The scrimmage was privately done without any media present, but exclusively with his teammates and coaches only. This is good news for Sixers fan because playing a 5-on-5 full court, is often the last step that an injured player takes before he returns to a real game.
Bynum did say that he only feels a minimum amount of pain in his knees now and if he’s able to get in shape, he should be ready by the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Sixers are currently 10th seed in the Eastern Conference and 4 games back of the 8th seed. Therefore, unless the Sixers make a playoff push, they may just shut Bynum down for the entire season.
