Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY SportsAndy Pettitte has made Yankees history, passing Whitey Ford on the team's all-time list for career strikeouts.

The fact that he's 41st on the all-time list, however, shows just how meaningful this "record" is.

Despite the fact that they Yankees have the most storied team history in Major League Baseball, their individual records aren't necessarily the benchmarks of greatness that we see in other franchise record books.

This is similar to when Derek Jeter broke the Yankees' record for career hits. Sure, Jeter has had a hell of a career, but until Jeter did it, the Yankees never had a hitter in the 3,000-hits club.

You'll probably see Pettitte on ESPN a bit, as they celebrate this momentous occasion. Keep in mind that despite the lofty amount of strikeouts, there are pitchers from many teams with more strikeouts than anyone in Yankees history.

Perspective, folks. It's a beautiful thing.

Still, congrats to Pettitte on another nice accomplishment.

I am just waiting for the commercials with Andy pitching those little blue pills.  Seems like once an athlete over 40 keeps performing well, that's the time to use them as an endorsement.  Unlike Siragusa who's doing male dependscheeky

I can't seem to find it, but the most impressive thing about Pettitte is his record in games after the Yankees lose.

Way to go Andy.  The other difference between Andy and Jeter is that Jeter never left the Yankees, and to my knowledge Jeter has never even been looked at for steroids.
