Blog Photo - Andy Reid Meeting with Kansas City ChiefsJust a day after reports surfaced that former Eagles' head coach Andy Reid was all but a certainty to be the next head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, it seems a deal between the two teams is not quite the sure-thing we were led to believe.

Before meeting with the Cardinals, Reid will reportedly meet with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia, and will then head to Arizona that evening. Both teams are in dire need of an impact signing that will give their players something to be excited about, and would undoubtedly love to lock up a big name like Reid.

The Cardinals still seem to be the favorite in the race for Reid, but reports from sources close to the coach have varied greatly. KTVK in Phoenix reported that the Cardinals and Reid were "close to a deal," while another source put a 95% chance on Reid ending up in Arizona. Contrarily, another source close to Reid insisted the two sides were not close to a deal, while a league source claimed that the Cardinals' coaching search was "open and just beginning." It's tough to get a read on this situation with such mixed reports (no pun intended).

The possibility remains that Reid's meeting with the Chiefs could simply be to gain leverage in negotiations with the Cardinals, but that is just about as up in the air as anything in this story. One thing that doesn't bode well for the Chiefs is that their general manager, Scott Pioli, has the final say in personnel decisions - Reid was the final decision maker in Philadelphia, and will likely decline job offers that don't give him that power, assuming it's offered somewhere else. It was reported after "Black Monday," however, that Pioli's job was still not safe, and the Chiefs could end up offering Reid a GM change if he accepts their job offer.

Pioli has failed to get the Chiefs a starting-caliber quarterback time and time again, while Reid is lauded for his ability to find talent and develop it in signal callers. Reid could end up being a good fit for a quarterback-less team that has quite a few electrifying playmakers.

Reid, however, would also be a great fit in Arizona. The Cardinals were already running a west coast offense, which is right up Reid's alley. In addition, their best quarterback is Kevin Kolb, a player Reid was very high on and had great chemistry with back when they were both with the Eagles.

While it looked like Reid was a virtual certainty to lock down the Cardinals' job, this story could be far from over - then again, he could still be named the Cardinals' head coach in the coming days.
