Outfielder Torii Hunter and the Los Angeles Angels reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday night on a five-year contract thought to be worth at least $80 million. The deal is of course pending a physical. "We are very excited to have Torii joining our organization," said Angels general manager Tony Reagins. "Not only is he an outstanding ballplayer but he's also an outstanding human being. He'll impact our ballclub and community in a very positive way."
This is a great for the Angels who moved right on after missing out on the A-Rod sweepstakes and signed the next big "fish" in the free agent pond. The signing is also interesting considering the Angels signed Garry Matthews Jr. last season to a 5 year deal. Adding a bat like Hunter will obviously make Vlad Guerrero and the Angels lineup more dangerous than it was last year. Could the Angles make another move with the surplus of talent that they now have and try to pick up another big bat like the Marlins' Miguel Cabrera? Is this the best signing of the free agent season so far?
